Description:
Original 1967 John Burroughs High School yearbook from Burbank, California — a genuine slice of 1960s San Fernando Valley life, with a documented connection to a two-time Grammy winner.
The Jay Graydon connection
This annual lists Jay Graydon in the California Scholastic Federation honors section. Born in Burbank in 1949, Graydon went on to win two Grammy Awards as a songwriter and producer — “After the Love Has Gone” for Earth, Wind & Fire and “Turn Your Love Around” for George Benson — and played the famous guitar solo on Steely Dan’s “Peg.”
His published biographies credit his high-school big-band arranging teacher as Robert Rose, who appears in this very yearbook as director of the Burroughs Dance Band (page 41). A rare documented look at the world that produced one of the defining musicians of the West Coast sound.
