Prohibition through repeal, one Sacramento business, 1922 to 1941, offered as a single lot. Perhaps a saloon in Oak Park

This lot is the paper trail of one business at 3463 4th Avenue, Sacramento, run first by Fred Steen and then by Emma Steen. It includes about 60 City of Sacramento municipal license receipts, plus a small group of 1913 to 1927 city building and street-use permits.

Highlights:

• January 1922 "Saloon" license, $75 for three months, two years into national Prohibition
• April 1922 "Retailer Non Intoxicating Alcoholic Beverages" license
• 1923 to 1932 "Beverage" and "Saloon & C." licenses, including a pair for April to June 1933 issued days before beer became legal again
• An unbroken quarterly run from April 1929 through December 1941, with one gap (October to December 1937)
• The 1938 change from Fred to Emma Steen, with the original name struck out and corrected on the card
• Clear paid stamps and Controller signatures on most cards

Condition: most cards are clean. A few have rust marks, light toning, or a staple line. The photos show the fronts of the license cards. Message me for photos of the backs or any specific piece.

Ships in a rigid mailer with tracking.
